fantasy-judgment-logo-1Fantasy Sports, the drafting of real players to imaginary teams, is estimated to be a $4 billion industry. Indeed, ESPN’s acclaimed documentary series 30 for 30 recently ran a documentary called “Silly Little Game” which describes the little known story behind the founding of Fantasy Baseball (then called Rotisserie League Baseball).

Over the last decade, the fantasy sports industry has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of prosperity, innovation, and participation. However, fantasy sports leagues are only governed by a set of rules written and enforced by a league commissioner who is also likely a league member. Most times, the statistical services that run fantasy sports leagues are of no assistance in implementing league rules or settling issues that arise. That where FantasyJudgment.com comes in.

Launched last year out of New Jersey, Fantasy Judgment is an independent, expert dispute resolution service for fantasy sports issues. It is comprised of a five-person panel of expert judges who render professionally-written decisions resolving any and all internal issues within fantasy sports leagues. Modeling its decisions after the Supreme Court of the United States, Fantasy Judgment serves to maintain the integrity of fantasy sports leagues by impartially resolving disputes that arise within the confines of a fantasy league. The judges utilize their own decades of fantasy sports experience, past precedent, common sense, and legal principles when authoring its decisions, which are guaranteed within 24 hours of receipt.

Additionally, Fantasy Judgment will assist league members and Commissioners in creating, drafting, interpreting and amending league constitutions which provide rules that govern such leagues.

Finally, Fantasy Judgment provides commentary and analysis on the fantasy sports industry as a whole. Any issues, litigation, or sports story that is relevant to the fantasy sports industry will be a topic of conversation and shared from the viewpoint of a third-party neutral to demonstrate our objectivity.

Inevitably, issues will arise within a fantasy sports league that requires quick and correct resolution, usually on behalf of the league’s Commissioner. In many instances, the Commissioner cannot be impartial or he/she is not capable of rendering the appropriate decision. People are spending significant amounts of money to compete in various types of fantasy sports leagues, and with that financial obligation come expectations of firm, accurate resolution. Moreover, many times the players in these leagues do know each other very well. Fantasy Judgment is able to serve as a neutral and provide guidance and resolution to fantasy sports participants.

Fantasy sports dispute resolution is a relatively new boutique service that is evolving within the booming fantasy sports industry, and Fantasy Judgment is prepared to lead the charge into the mainstream.

To those that are not involved in fantasy sports this may all sound like shear insanity. However, take it from someone who has been playing fantasy sports for 20 years, these guys may be on to something.

I think this is a great idea. Like the article says, some people won’t understand the need, but believe a fantasy sports nut like myself, this is a very useful service for fantasy leagues.
