Dwarf Fortress for me. Interactive story creation is kind of what the game is.

It can be downloaded for free on the official website. The wiki also has an installation guide in case you want to play it on a Linux or such. The game will also be out on Steam and itch.io in 3 weeks, with fancy graphics and more, though that version won’t be free.

And on that note, Dwarf Fortress also has marauding raiders and even full-scale invasions, and building paths full of traps to handle them…well, most of them…is a time-honored practice in that game. There’s a LOT more to it than that, though. And it’s definitely not a game for everyone.
