I use Mailgun myself, but https://emailoctopus.com might be worth a look. Like Sendy they also use Amazon SES, so should be pretty cheap. And then you wouldn’t have to deal with hosting it yourself, unlike Sendy. They say they have a developer API so maybe you can get metrics from that. Both Sendy and Email Octopus have list segmentation which should do the job for hiding sponsors; not sure if either of them…

I think it’s a great idea that you’re going the SSG route but one suggestion I’d make is to connect your content to a CMS. Since you’re looking for newsletter functionality, I can highly recommend Ghost which now offers newsletter functionality built-in. If cost is an issue, you can host Ghost on Heroku free-tier, access its data “headlessly” and then generate your pages using the SSG of your choice. Using Ghost…

Integrated Sendgrid for sending confirmation emails. Originally wanted to do this either via MailChimp or EmailOctopus but these products are used more for email marketing rather than transactional emails.
