Another thing I like to do for continued marketing on Reddit is reply to comments of other related posts, for example where developers are asking about SaaS templates or SaaS app resources. I do this by using a free service called F5Bot, which sends me keyword notification emails for terms like “saas starter” or “saas boilerplate” on reddit. Then I can go to these posts and see if mentioning Open SaaS is relevant…

Sounds very familiar. Was a solo dev for at least 2 years before being able to form a team around my product. One nit, one confirm: – I don’t agree with the guiltiness on zero days. There is just no way to stay sane if you don’t truly enjoy zero days. You will burn your candle. – I 1000000% agree that any form of customer validation will make your day. Could be a Stripe ping, a mention on Twitter or here or…

For example, a “free” service that I use and is “slightly” monetized by ads in the notification emails. F5Bot https://f5bot.com/. Would Reddit ask them for $12,000 per month?

I’m using https://f5bot.com/ Works for Reddit and a few other websites. And you get notifications immediately. Not sure if you can set them to be aggregated once a day, in case it’s a requirement.

Yes, I do. There are a bunch of tools that help with this. The two I’ve used are https://f5bot.com/ which monitors reddit and HN and is free, and https://syften.com/ which monitors a whole bunch more, but is paid.

Set up social listening with e.g. MentionFunnel or F5bot and engage with people on Reddit, Twitter etc. When they mention your keywords.

I’ve only heard super bad things about Reddit ads and that it’s basically never worth it. Have you tried using a social listening tool (e.g. MentionFunnel or F5Bot) that alerts you whenever someone mentions e.g. “newsletter” in a fitness related subreddit and then replying to them? I think that would give you much better results for way less money .

I would start working on finding some keywords (see https://f5bot.com/) for your niche so you can build up over time organically, that takes weeks to months so best to start now.

I do this using F5Bot. It’s not a panacea for driving customers, but it’s still useful and helps you keep a pulse on what is being talked about in your niche.

I’m not the guy you asked, but imo a good way to find customers if by using social listening to get notified whenever someone mentions a keyword relevant to your business or the problem you are solving. F5Bot is a good one if you want something really simple and free, and if not, then there are others out there such as GummySearch (good for audience research) and MentionFunnel (full disclaimer, I built it ).

F5Bot – This tool will notify you via email if any keywords you’ve identified have been mentioned on Reddit (and a few other places). It’s particularly useful to track your brand name, website or services you provide.

The pitch for f5bot is simple – as they say, it is a service that will help you to “Get an email when you’re mentioned online!”.

Developing products is tough, especially for the online web. For example, a quick search on Google for “translation services” will now give you thousands of results. Just like any other startup company, we started with 0 sign up and built our own way up there. We have always seen marketing experts, software developers and start up professionals easily build their audience because of their credibility and expertise…

I use f5bot to listen to project mentions across Reddit (certain subreddits) and hacker news. I’ll often help provide context, links to relevant docs page, ore advisories (for and against the project depending on context). The main thing is to not over-do this and primarily comment if you can add value, not just treat it as pure marketing, and be transparent. The community have generally been positive about this…
