My bottomline is this. If this what is needed for YouTube to survive, I’m all for it. The alternate is YouTube shutting down (like what gfycat.com did) and years of stuff .. Just vanished.

Hello! I’ve been uploading a 10 second video on the gfycat.com site’s “upload” menu for over an hour now, and it’s been stuck on the “encoding” screen. This issue has persisted between multiple browsers and different video files (all of which are mp4s) over the course of the past few weeks. Does anyone happen to know what’s causing this or how to fix it? Thanks!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to go to all of your favorite uploads on Gfycat, copy the URL, and paste it into the “save page now” field near the bottom of the main page for archive.org’s Wayback Machine. Once you’ve done all your favorites… Browse around to random items and archive those too! :).

More recently, gfycat, which hosted a whole damn lot of gifs used for content or reactions, seemingly got shut down. Snapchat, which acquired it some time ago, seems to no longer have interest in it.

Have you tried streamable.com its used a lot on reddit, but it uses video up to one minute. Free also.

Some subreddits don’t accept videos, they ask to send a gif and forward a user to such websites like https://gfycat.com that writes that it makes gifs from videos…
