    • I just cannot understand why they did Paint so bad

Paint.NET for a familiar paradigm with nicer features.
Pinta for an old school, simple Paint experience.
      Krita for more advanced drawing.
      Gimp for editing/manipulating photos.

    • Had to make This after seeing all the post over and over again

If you don’t want to pay for photoshop, check out the Gnu Image Manipulation Program at http://gimp.org which is free. It has most of what you’d want photoshop for.

    • Super, just Super.

As good as this suggestion is, without proper links and explanation it means nothing. GEGL is a type of plugins for GIMP, which can adjust the settings of already present effects and create new ones. The most notable ones are made by LinuxBeaver.

    • Useful apps for Ux designers

GIMP: FOSS alternative to Photoshop. Like Inkscape, it’s not directly related to UI, but might be handy.

    • Malicious ad post & download mirror

      OS? On windows from gimp.org it’s https://download.gimp.org/gimp/v2.10/windows/gimp-2.10.32-setup-1.exe.

    • Upgrading and plug-ins

In general, the installer from gimp.org does not remove any files it didn’t install, so third-party plug-ins will be kept.

    • Dangerous Google Ad Disguising Itself as www.gimp.org

Another possibility here is that here’s a compromised file on the gimp.org site that does a redirect.

    • Newbie Question- I have a school logo that is circular, but the file saves it as a square with white background. Is there a way I can “cut” the circular logo out so I can etch it on our Glowforge?

Does the Glowforge require a PNG or JPEG? If so, you may be better off with GIMP (gimp.org) and performing a color erasure (https://www.gimp.org/tutorials/Changing_Background_Color_1/).

    • WIP: is the face proportion right for the body?

I use Deforum Stable Diffusion and edit on Gimp. Didn’t get the results I was looking for with the “algos,” ended up doing my usual thing (upscale, crop, tweak, img2img, graft it in). If I were to share the end result should I make another post? Or would that be considered spam (since I already posted the WIP once, even though it was for asking a question)?

    • ILPT Request : how can i get photoshop for free?

Of course, if you require the latest version of everything, then you need to do some other things, but I am sure that even the old CS2 edition is more than good enough for most of the Adobe users. Or download free Gimp.

    • The views in NMS never disappoint

He used ReShade (https://reshade.me), a post processing injector you can use with many games (I think Nvidia even has some built in features that are similar) and GIMP (https://gimp.org), probably the best free alternative to Photoshop since decades.

    • Since Adobe is trying to be like Netflix, What are some good (free) alternatives to the software?

Depending on the purpose, I’d name Gimp for a general photo editor, Photodiva for a portrait editor and Clipify for a video editor.

In a serious note, I don’t believe that is possible. You might be able to look up how to import any font there, then just point to the Impact.ttf, if possible. GIMP is pretty easy to learn for dogelore posting. (Also it’s free software, don’t buy it on the Microsoft store, https://gimp.org) If you’re on a Chromebook you’re gonna need to find the Impact.ttf online because it’s a Microsoft copyrighted font.

    • Export Gimp base fonts

GIMP does not come with any fonts of its own, at least not if you got it from gimp.org.

    • Software to open raw and calibrated PDS images (.img / .dat)?

Years ago I wrote my own PDS plugin for https://gimp.org, but that’s not working anymore on current versions and was limited to 8 bit/channel.

    • I made a layperson’s tutorial for getting raw JWST data yourself!

For those who don’t like/want to use Python and prefer a standalone desktop application on Windows or macOS try FITS Liberator from https://noirlab.edu/public/products/fitsliberator and then load the exported TIF into https://gimp.org to despeckle it and further processing.

    • Show HN: Remove unwanted objects in photos simply by dragging boxes

Well, now you’ve made me look like an idiot with the original post. What ‘computational resources’ are needed here, a 2nd-gen GPU? I think this kind of object removal would be awesome if it were implemented as a Gimp plugin. Gimp allows scripting in Python, which seems to be what most DL projects are using these days: https://gimp.org/.

    • Yet another whine about wine

Have you tried Gimp or Krita? Those are the most popular Linux apps that do the sort of thing you do with Corel Paintshop.
