Goodbudget is like other budgeting apps that utilize the envelope system. Instead of syncing up your personal accounts, users manually enter information. Yes, it’s more work, but it also keeps you fully invested in what’s going on with your money. It’s a nice middle ground between fully-automated budgeting and reverting to paper envelopes and a pencil.
Formerly known as Easy Envelope Budget Aid or EEBA, Goodbudget is a perfect option for couples that want to share their budgeting process together. It uses the familiar envelope budgeting philosophy to power your proactive budget for all of your bills and spending.

  • Bethany’s over at the house, cleaning, but takes the time to brag about what great budgeters she and Dave have been, their “financial freedom”, and how well-prepared they’ve been for their future. This is not supported by their desperate scramble to find a house before their lease expired, but OK!

There are also free options available.

  • Simple Budgeting – Connects to Accounts

Yes. For example, aspire or goodbudget. Just create a single category that represents available monies. And spend from it. It’ll give you a tally of your available money, similar to Weekly. Weekly is good cuz it tailors the experience around a single category, if that makes sense. The plus side is those two options are free. But no direct import.

Goodbudget: https://goodbudget.com/ Free for the basic package, $60 a year for the full package (so significantly less than YNAB).

  • Saving money while expecting

Figuring out how much we would need for unpaid time off was the most important part of that, and it was pretty easy and accurate for us because we have a monthly budget and track every dollar we spent in a website/app called goodbudget. It was really easy to just look at what we spend money on in a normal month and go through line by line to say “Yeah, we can do without that line item for a month, don’t need to…

Just cancelled as well. I’ve been using the products since YNAB3, but after reaching out to customer service to see what options I had, and being told outright to cancel, I decided to take their advice. Going to look into GoodBudget or roll back to YNAB4 for a while.

So, try and track your money for 3 months to see where every dollar goes. You can use a free app like Goodbudget, to track on your phone every dollar you spend the moment you spend it, or if you really want to get into it, the You Need A Budget and Mint programs are highly recommended. You need a budget. You need to track exactly how much money is coming in, how much money is going out, where that money is going, how much money is left, and what you want to do with the money you have. I would recommend a simple app like Goodbudget, it’s a free budget app you can download on the phone. It works on the “envelope budget” system, where you have envelopes of cash for each expense, like rent, food,…
