This feel like a corporate greed play, on what should be a relatively simple chat application. Slack has quickly become just another enterprise solution in search of shareholder value at expensive of data privacy. Regulation of these companies should be more apparent to people, but sadly, is not. I would recommend https://mattermost.com as an alternative.

Personally, I rather liked self-hosted versions of these: Mattermost: https://mattermost.com/ Rocket.Chat: https://www.rocket.chat/ Nextcloud Talk: https://nextcloud.com/talk/ Out of those, Mattermost was the easiest to setup (just need PostgreSQL and a web server, in addition to the main container), however not being able to easily permanently delete instead of just archiving workspaces was awkward. Nextcloud…

> Tell me another platform that is free, has realtime chat, voice and video, has stable service, allows sharing images and other media, with good ownership management… And is open source. Mattermost: https://mattermost.com/ Rocket.Chat: https://www.rocket.chat/ Nextcloud Talk: https://nextcloud.com/talk/ Self hosting and some assembly required. I’ve run all of them on cheap VPSes to explore a Slack/Discord…

Setting up a Matrix server is quite demanding. Maybe something like mattermost is a better fit for a small team?

I set up Mattermost on a Linux server I had standing around. Problem solved with the (still a little buggy but usable) remind plugin. And as an extra bonus now our team talk is completely private with full history.

Mattermost has the best security and compliance across the board. Check them out. And MS mines your chat data BTW, just like Google does your emails/chat.

The agents can now send notifications to Mattermost, using the Slack integration! Mattermost has a Slack-compatible API that only required a couple of additional parameters. Kudos to @je2555!

Our military uses this program to communicate classified information and it’s open-source. “Everyone can see the code therefore it is easier to circumvent” is false logic. https://mattermost.com/.

I too have been frustrated by the lack of kanban projects with mobile. I personally prefer a native mobile app vs a webpage. What I ended up settling on was Mattermost . I think it should tick most of your boxes.

I maintain a Synapse homeserver for our open source project and it seems to work fine, I don’t know how different it is from Conduit. Other open source and self-hosted chat apps I’ve heard of but haven’t used are Mattermost[1] and Rocket.chat[2]. [1] https://mattermost.com/ [2] https://www.rocket.chat/.
