With the newer, online work management tools that have project management features (ClickUp, Monday.com, etc.), several have free versions and you have the ability to create a custom field that you can use for the assignee, ignoring the built-in field that requires a licensed user or guest.

I’m thinking about using small to medium group projects in my classroom to teach students the basics of project management (breaking big tasks into smaller ones, assigning roles, identifying dependencies, estimating effort/duration, tracking progress, etc.) I can do it using google sheets, but I was curious if anyone here has leveraged online tools like monday.com, Asana, Trello, etc. In the educational space.

I’ve made my life a LOT easier by starting an organized task list – I used monday.com but you can use whatever works best for you. I categorized things by small, medium and large projects, and low-med-high priorities.

We were 99% of the way there using Jotform with Calendly widget, and Zapier to send the data to Monday – but now that they’ve seen the monthly costs for Jotform they’ve been put off and would like to find a cheaper solution, as they’re quite a small outfit and have already been shoe-horned into paying for both monday.com and Zapier.

We don’t need any kind of automations done yet, it’s more so it’s easier for us to keep track of clients, projects and deadlines. Something like monday.com looks like something we could use but their first plan require at least 3 seats and we pretty much need only one. So I guess it’s more like a clients/projects database rather than full on CRM.

With the shitty macro and budget cuts and what not, my org is scrutinizing all spend and even contemplating reducing the number of people that have access to monday.com. Idk about you, but this sounds ridiculous to me. Why attack the tools of your employees? Why not instead attack executives bonuses and travel packages, etc. lol.

Is monday.com just not making the new changes at all and keeping things as is, or have they modified the changes to be less disruptive and break things? They have removed the support page that was originally explaining the changes. So my guess is they aren’t going to make any new changes to automations at all now?
