Personalized Reading
NewsBlur allows you to train its system on what stories you like and dislike, providing you with a more personalized news reading experience.
Offline Access
The mobile apps support offline reading, which is useful for users who want to catch up on news without an internet connection.
Story Sharing
It offers social features, enabling users to share interesting stories and comment within their circle or the public.
Third-Party Integration
NewsBlur supports integration with other apps and services via APIs, enhancing its functionality and convenience.
Open Source
The platform is open-source, which can attract developers who want to contribute to its improvement or customize it for their own needs.
I also use it for its Popular Bookmarks – I subscribed to its RSS feed in
NewsBlur and always have something interesting to read when my other feeds are
Empty (they rarely are).

There’s a bunch of replacements. I like https://newsblur.com but there are 4-6 large-ish similar sites. That said, partially what people miss is the relative cultural hegemony of Google Reader. It was RSS front-and-center, prominently featured on websites, supported by the biggest company in tech, with all the users there and able to take advantage of the (sparse) social features.

Https://newsblur.com/ I think this might be pretty close to what you’re looking for. It’s an RSS feed reader with a platform for discussions.

Currently I’m on Newsblur. But it’s really convoluted to Self host – to my “shame” I use their cloud hosted app with premium. It’s (over)laden with features that I actually use and cheaper than for example Feedly.

I start every day with RSS subscriptions using NewsBlur (https://newsblur.com) and Reeder (https://reederapp.com). I’ve also set up a page so other people can see my subscriptions / what I’m reading: https://sources.werd.io.

Dude, check out Newsblur. That’s where I migrated to when Google Reader was taken behind the barn by Google. It’s great, and I am still paying only $1/month as I have since I signed up.

NewsBlur – I’m on a paid plan since I’m a packrat with almost 700 feeds. It is a pretty busy interface but has tons of functionality. Their mobile app is also pretty good. https://newsblur.com/.

It sure didn’t help, but I agree that Google Reader’s death didn’t kill blogs themselves; the decline has been pretty steady (Reader was killed in 2013): https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&geo=US&q=rss,blog I also agree that RSS is still worth it. I am a happy subscriber to Newsblur: https://newsblur.com/ Indeed, the mess that is Twitter is giving me hope that we’ll see a comeback of people…

Almost everyone here recommends Inoreader, which is understandable: it’s the most powerful RSS reader.
I respect Inoreader, but I prefer ten times the UX of Newsblur, which is open source and feautured packed if you are a power user (but you can use it as a normal RSS reader).

Https://newsblur.com/ is what I use for years. Incredibly good and pretty much in the vein of the old Google Reader.

I bounced around between a few other RSS readers after Google Reader was shut down, and eventually stuck to NewsBlur. I still use it. The biggest thing that sets it apart for me is that you can have it highlight or hide stories based on keywords.

Omg they built their own chat system lolololololol. They’re so smart, but where is the wisdom? Thanks for the link! This development concept makes a lot of sad sense. (RIP google reader, long live Newsblur).

Https://newsblur.com/ comes pretty close for me though.

I tried it when they started, it was a sluggish mess that also did not use the browser cache correctly. Maybe I noticed because I had thousands of RSS feeds, I dunno. Granted, that was a decade ago so I hope they improved it since. I stick to https://newsblur.com/. It has it’s quirks but is way, way faster (two days ago a redesign came out that makes it so fast I feel like I’m using the old Google Reader again).

It’s about two thirds of the way down the page of https://newsblur.com/ (when you’re not logged in). Paid account is US$36/year. You can sign up with a free try-before-you-buy account to give it a go first, though.

Https://newsblur.com It’s an online service. It has features to extract the whole story from the source website, and to automatically filter feed items according to title, author, tags etc. There are android and iOS apps available; at least the Android one is opensource. One can self-host it, but at $36/year it’s almost worth it paying the author to avoid the hassle.
