I can use Process Hacker and run “Reduce working set” on it, which makes explorer.exe instantly go down to ~100MB. However, it just starts leaking RAM again and it’s a matter of hours until it grows back to several GB.

I can’t have a task manager style tool installed? It’s completely safe and does NOTHING in terms of cheating, no other game has ever flagged it as false positive. Is this AC so bad that it sees the word “h4Ck3R” and thinks it needs to be removed? What else is this thing needlessly scanning my computer for?

If you are on the latest BIOS, the next thing I’d be looking at is something that’s hitting I/O, either use Process Hacker: https://processhacker.sourceforge.io/ or task manager to try and catch the process causing the problem.

For Windows, ProcessHacker2 (https://processhacker.sourceforge.io/ ) will let you filter by process ID and let you monitor IP traffic from that application (process ID). This is not a substitute for Wireshark and packet capture but a high level view on which remote hosts a process is communicating with as well as watch sockets being opened and closed.

Nice discovery, indeed that is very suspicious, I wish Microsoft would have sorted out permissions for Windows.. The trick is to run “taskkill” as user SYSTEM, using “run as”. It will kill anything and everything, including generating a nice BSOD if you feel like (kill System process). Or if you’re a GUI kind of guy and want a nice interface with plenty of options I recommend “Process Hacker” (https://processhacker.sourceforge.io/).

Interesting project, nice use of the egui crate. I usually write this kind of thing in C, might be a good time to RIIR. I personally prefer the windows crate because it is official and generated directly from the API metadata. FYI Process Hacker can do DLL injection and a lot more, in case you’re looking for a powerful tool.

Could be some pre-installed bloatware. Process Hacker, which is a beefed-up Task Manager, helped me isolate needless services and processes that were clogging up my CPU. It made a noticeable difference once I pruned out the detritus, plus it has a feature to always launch noita.exe with High CPU priority.
