You can also check sites like Roomi or Craigslist to see if there are people looking for roommates.

Go to https://roomiapp.com/ and put in your budget. Anything off the L will give you pretty quick access to nightlife hotspots in Bushwick, Williamsburg, and East Village. If you’re on facebook search for Gypsy Housing, lots of folks looking for roommates on there.

And lastly, most people look for apartments via StreetEasy but given you are looking for an open room in an apartment with other occupants, you might want to give Roomi a try.

I’d actually recommend Roomi instead of Airbnb, since Airbnb is going to be very expensive and you’d end up with a room in an Airbnb anyway. Here is a filter for Brooklyn for your budget and here is one for Manhattan!

Spareroom has a US site (https://www.spareroom.com/roommates) and there’s also https://roomiapp.com. City specific Facebook groups may be your best bet here though OP.

There are several facebook groups where people post apts/rooms for sale – I like the groups that are listed as no spam (they tend to have less garbage postings). https://roomiapp.com/ is another place to post ads for rooms.

I usually suggest subscribing to the Listings Project, but it sounds like you’re in a hurry and those listings are only published every Wednesday. For something faster, I’ve heard good things about the Roomi app: https://roomiapp.com/.

Try the ROOMI app (or go to roomiapp.com). And craigslist.

As others have stated, you likely want to get a room that’s available in a multi-room apartment. I suggest using a website like Roomi to try and find a place that suits you best.

For a longer set of time, find a sublet or someone looking for a short-term roommate. My neighbors used Roomi (roomiapp.com), both as host and seeker, with success. It gives you security of a space at a potentially better rate than hotel/AirBnB while you take your time finding your own space.

I used Roomi to find my new roommate last summer. I didn’t get any real hits until I did the background check. After I did, I found a roommate pretty fast.
