Markdown is awesome! But, when writing 1000 words+ articles, I quickly feel the need for a better experience. For years, I’ve used StackEdit — an open-source, in-browser Markdown editor — for editing all kinds of long-format Markdown text. That said, given my recent experience with WYSIWYG editors, I thought I could do something better.

This is especially annoying as when I export from stackedit.io to HTML, then it just cuts off anything which is outside the greyed in code window!

StackEdit[0] pretty much perfected what I needed out of a markdown editor – I just need somewhere to write my tickets/docs that wasn’t Github so that I could format it properly while writing. I still use it from time to time [0]: https://stackedit.io/.

Readme files have the .md extensions, so it means they need to be using the Markdown standards. It’s easy to learn and you can use this editor to write your file more easily.

For an example of someone else doing this, try stackedit.io where I invariably go to copy/paste text into, and then copy the resulting text out and into iAWriter.

Before choosing a markup language, you’ll need to choose either a desktop code editor like VSCode or stay in your terminal and use something like EmacsVIM. Most code editors will have plug-ins for popular markup languages which will offer you syntax highlighting, preview, etc. If you’re testing or learning a specific syntax, there are many online editors, such as, StackEdit for Markdown.

I used that [0] when I’ve needed some kind of markdown markup. But this day I just use a small app called Tot[1] to jot things down quickly. [0]: https://stackedit.io [1]: https://tot.rocks/.

I like StackEdit for its simplicity as an online note taking app that natively handles markdown. Can be downloaded as an PWA and synched to Google Drive etc.

This markdown editor is complementary to the Flutter SDK. The markdown editor itself is an integration with https://stackedit.io/, which is, in my opinion, a very well-constructed and easy-to-use markdown editor.

Personally I use https://stackedit.io/ when I want a WYSIWYG editor to use – though I’ve previously linked https://spec.commonmark.org/dingus/ when testing things.

I want to create a simple markdown editor. A simple element, just like the markdown editor here on Reddit.

I was wondering whether there’s a package that would listen to keystrokes and if something **bold** has been typed it would make that part bold, for example.
