DuckDuckGo & Co. – DDG, Swisscows and Ecosia all use Bing index. For people that only care about privacy, this is a non-issue. But I don’t like the idea that the entirety of web currently depends on just two companies. So I personally don’t use them. Same logic extends to Startpage, which is owned by an ad company & uses Google’s results. As they rely on the Big 2, they’re closer to frontends/MetaSearch engines in…

I recommend you use swisscows.com to search instead, its not censored in the same way that duckduckgo.com and google.com is censored with different results appearing.

I use brave, google (for technical subjects when I can’t find answer with brave), and for anything that has a remote chance to be censored I use engines with their own crawlers : fireball.de, gigablast.com, yandex.com and other browsers to be sure but I don’t think they have their own crawler : lycos.com, swisscows.com, mojeek.com, metager.de. We would need a locally served meta search engine that search on all…

No, I’m in the US. What is a VPN? I have not changed any settings recently, and it worked fine last week. Would changing the browser have changed settings? I did have the same problem with swisscows.com . Good idea, I will try to see if I can log in on my husband’s computer.

The name doesn’t sound like much but, I just found out https://swisscows.com and it gives better results than Qwant for those outside EU. I’ll be using it as my secondary engine, next to DDG, and see how it grows.

I want to change my search engine from duckduckgo (after their stance on Russia, but I was always skeptical of them and was already exploring some alternatives) to something which displays unbiased results irrespective of what my entry is, and I have noticed many people suggesting Searx as a better alternative. I am also aware of other search engines like Swisscows, Mojeek, Metager, etc. However, I want to…

I have found that copying an RT title to a search engine (I use https://swisscows.com/) will get results from any number of news sites around the world that have republished their articles. Hopefully Reddit won’t ban them all.

Qwant.com is a good one as well as swisscows.com. They are both located in Europe (France and Switzerland) and I am happy with their results. Are they the best ? It depends on your use case I guess.
