TotalFinder is back. You need to disable SIP, but if you know what you are doing on your mac and don’t open/download shady stuff, it should be fine.

TotalFinder is another good enhancement. It works on 12.0 Intel Macs, but no current M1 support. They originally weren’t going to even try to support it, but they decided against that finally and have been working on updates for both TotalFinder and TotalSpaces.

If you’re not on 12.0 or on an M1, I’d give TotalFinder[1] a shot. I’ve been using it for years and among other great Finder add-ons, it enables the same dual mode[2] layout as ForkLift.

I have been struggling lately with trying to wean myself off using TotalFinder. I’ve used that app for over a decade and it truly is the best for my needs. The problem I have is that it requires you to turn off SIP on your machine, which is less than ideal, and for M1 machines can’t run it period. I do currently have Intel hardware, but at some point I’ll want to get Apple Silicon hardware and the end will be neigh.
