I Use a system like Twist for internal communication that encourages thoughtful responses, allows you to search through it later to get to how decisions were arrived at, and doesn’t distract you all day like slack does.

This may not be tenable depending on the size of your company, but back when my company was small we dumped Slack for Twist and I will literally never look back. I’ll let you read Twist‘s website for their philosophy on workplace communication, but the main points relevant to you are:.

If I have several tracks for a client I use Twist (https://twist.com).
I have one channel per client and one thread for each track in their channel. Very easy to work on several projects. The inbox features enable to easily check update/new messages.

I still haven’t checked it out myself yet, but https://twist.com/ markets itself as actually asynchronous communication instead of the constant distraction that Slack/Teams is.

I think https://twist.com/ is the best solution between chat and forum. But they have the same pricing slack now starts using and that makes it unusable to keep knowledge.

In 2013 there was a company called “Twist” that invited users to share their location temporarily so that co-workers could know if they would be on time to meetings. Twist is designed specifically for asynchronous communication, it can best be described as a slower, more considered version of Slack. There are no notification dots and no presence indicators, and the UI is very clean. It strikes a really nice balance between encouraging teamwork and avoiding distractions.

We’ve recently switched our team from Slack to Twist. Maybe that could be a good alternative for the Quill users that are getting booted now. https://twist.com/ It’s got fewer features and settings than Slack, but got the basic functionality and is much better tailored to async work, with threads and no ‘stream of text’ chat windows (it does have DMs though).
