You know that Quicken comes from the same company as Quickbooks, right? Personally I would go back to a #2 and ledger paper before I give Intuit another nickel. Quicken For Small Business looks inexpensive at the moment, but it is also SaaS and they will still have you by the short hairs just like they do now. Take a look at waveapps.com . It’s free for the basic accounting software.

You can dig for my other post if you want, short story is that I was tricked into upgrading from QB Desktop 2019 to 2022 because “2019 will stop working”. I was not told QBD 2022 was subscription based. They hit me up 30 days before end of subscription and jacked my annual fee from $220 to $549. After 15 years I’m done with this. Solo Freelancer. Don’t need to pay for something that I don’t use all the features….

They make their money on the payment side, which is a little above what you might get through taking zelle, venmo, paypal payments etc, but it’s nice to be able to send invoices from it and give your customers a way to pay immediately on the spot. They told me I had to buy the latest version because QB 2019 would no longer work. I bought QB 2022 not knowing it was a subscription. They just sent me a 30 day notice to pay $549 or it would stop working. I would not even be able to open my own data file. I spent 10 days and moved my entire business over to waveapps.com. I’m just a solo freelancer and don’t need all this BS and $$$.

Yes you can issue invoice without ssm. And yes, can just use templates online. If he wants it to look more “pro”, just use waveapps.com.

For payments I would highly recommend using Wave. It’s free to use, and the % they take out is lower than what other are that I’ve looked at. Its pretty easy to use. https://waveapps.com.

Now, it turns out that was not true. I may have to switch to their online version just to give myself a few more months to get converted over to some other product like waveapps.com. I can’t just drop what I’m doing and convert over all this data in 30 days.

No reason you can’t use business accounting software for that. Quickbooks is probably a bit robust, but something more simple like Wave (waveapps.com) which is web-based and free, you can upload pics of receipts, etc… (I’m not affiliated with them, I’ve just used it and like it).

Aside from the question of incorporation, you’ll want to set up a separate bank account and credit card for your business. I’d also recommend connecting your business accounts to waveapps.com which is a free accounting service that keeps track of your expenses, invoices etc. It made my life a LOT easier.

We use wave for book keeping and recurring billing with payment options through them. I don’t know if they are the cheapest or the most expensive, I do know that it was easy to set up and we havent had any issues yet so worth every percentage lol.

And I use waveapps.com for invoicing. I guess take “free” with a grain of salt because credit card payments are 2.9% + $0.60 on there ($.30 more than standard) but I’m almost positive ACH payments are free, although I rarely get those for the type of work I’m doing and using Wave for.

I like to use Waveapps.com, transaction importing simply saves too much time to not. Plus, invoicing is slick. Plus accountant help can be purchased on the platform. In my research, I feel my Data is safe with them.

I need to send money every month to my employee in the Netherlands. The amount I send him depends on each invoice as certain items have different costs. I want to send him USD as per our contract. What would be the cheapest method for this? I’d like to use my Blue Business Plus card but can do simple bank transfers if needed. I probably will be invoicing clients via waveapps.com.

Use something like waveapps.com or bullethq.com to handle invoicing and receipts. You can create them yourself in Excel or Google Sheets too but that’s a hassle sometimes.
