My parents are traveling to a foreign country with the intent to buy property and want to give me $30k to wire to them because their credit union can’t but my bank can.

They could also use an intermediary which would likely get better currency exchange rates anyway, for example transferwise or xe.com. It’s also going to be fee free typically when doing a large amount.

WISE.com multi-currency card. FX at the mid-market rate plus a small fee. Don’t use any of the banks to exchange, their fees of 2.5 – 3% are baked into the rate. You can use xe.com to see the mid-market rate, or yahoo finance.

KnightsbridgeFX rate flexibility?

Are you looking at the midmarket rate on xe.com? They’ve specifically stated that they don’t use the mid-market rate for sending and they provide the rate for information purposes only. KnightsBridge FX is likely using the mid-market rate + their own conversion fee in the rates they quote you.

I’ve used KnightsbridgeFX for USD->CAD conversions for a few years. I always take whatever rate they say on the phone, since it always seems _pretty_ close to what xe.com is showing as the current rate.

Saw the Kawartha Voyageur go by my parents house on its way downtown yesterday. It is the largest vessel on the Rideau canal, built to the maximum possible size that can fit through the locks. The front folds up to fit in the lock chambers and the antennas on top fold down to fit under bridges.

In a pinch for currency conversation

I know of many travelers who come back with currency which sits in a drawer. Perhaps placing a note in NextDoor or a local sub Reddit group for your area where you inquire if anyone has the type of currency which you need where you can meet up in a mutually agreed upon – safe location – such as a Starbucks to make the exchange. Simply convert the currency which they have via xe.com to make the correct USD exchange.

I just joined Prolific. I’ve taken 2 surveys and I’m in the United States. Why do all surveys show reward as being in pounds and not US dollars?

Xe.com is not what PayPal uses as their conversion rate. Their rate is always going to give you less than the official rate.

According to the past 5 years chart from xe.com , IDR:SGD rates have went through swings ranging from -16.55% to +14.68% with a total of -7.43% from Mar 2018 to Mar 2023, and -31.03% from Mar 2013 to Mar 2023.
